Byers to debut at Queensland Raceway for TA2 Tag Team Enduro
As part of his reward for winning the New Zealand TA2NZ Championship, Caleb Byers competed in the Australian TA2 Tag-Team Enduro over the weekend. The three-day event was held at Queensland Raceway in Ipswich.
Byers teamed up with fellow ACDelco junior driver Jarrod Hughes in the ACDelco-backed Chevrolet Camaro. While the pair struggled to unlock the car’s full pace in qualifying, both drivers delivered strong performances across the two sprint races and two 45-minute enduros. After making steady gains throughout the weekend, the team had the car in contention in the final race. Hughes brought the number one Camaro into the pit stop in fourth place before handing over to Byers, who quickly moved up to third. However, contact from the Wood/Casabene entry sent Byers into the gravel trap, dropping the car down the order. He rejoined in ninth and recovered to finish seventh.
It was a frustrating end to what had been a promising debut weekend for the young driver, but Byers remained upbeat afterwards.
“Jarrod and I had a real crack, and we were running well inside the top three, but the contact put me off the track,” said Byers. “It’s disappointing, but I learned a lot from the weekend, and I know I need to keep improving to stay at the front.”
I’m super excited for the next step and can’t wait to share the journey with you all.
